Northside Branch Library, Atlanta, GA

That's the Way the Cookie Crumbles

by the Northside Library Writers

There was a chair that thought she was special. Her name was Laura, and she was pink, soft, fluffy, and very comfortable. Her favorite thing to have on her table was a big plate of huge, warm, delicious chocolate chip cookies.

She had been riding through Atlanta on a bus, and when she returned home, she discovered that someone or something had taken her latest plate of cookies! She was so upset. She got on the computer and sent an e-mail to her good friend Grace, a 3 year old yellow chair who was also the most helpful chair in the neighborhood.

Grace went around asking questions of the neighbors and found out that while Laura was away, one of the neighbors saw a blue chair named Ashton sneak into Laura's house and leave a few minutes later. Further inquiry determined that Ashton lived alone in a small house down the street and that he was always upset and jealous, because he thought he was the only chair that lived in that area. Ashton had heard that he had brothers and sisters, but had gotten separated from them when they were young.

When Grace went to talk to Ashton, two things happened. First Ashton discovered that he was not alone, and Grace noticed a strong resemblance between Ashton and Laura. Could it be that they were brother and sister?

After she did a little more detective work, she told Laura that she had some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that the cookies were eaten, and were gone forever. The good news? Grace had found Laura's brother! The reunion was such a happy one, that they had a party and invited all the furniture in the neighborhood to come over and celebrate!

What a happy ending! And of course the main food served at the party was - you guessed it - huge, warm, delicious chocolate chip cookies!

The End
